Use this link to access Stew’s recent All-Day Sitting talk. Here’s an excerpt with a question that may be of interest:
Last night, sitting quietly on the balcony, the question arose, “Is there something in the midst of all this change—physical changes, challenges, day-to-day events in our lives, and what’s going on in the so-called “world out there”… Is there something in the midst of all this that doesn’t change?” One calls it stillness or presence, awareness. Whatever, it’s not the word, [it’s what] doesn’t change. Don’t take anyone’s word for it. It’s not a belief to be taken on.
Later, Stew spoke of social action, referencing the protests that were taking place the day he gave the talk:
Today there’s organized protests going on throughout, apparently, all 50 states, protests about what’s going on in Washington… perfectly understandable on this person’s part, there being the need for some, if you want to call it, “social action.” But along with that, if one is able and inclined to show up to such an event, along with that, isn’t what is being talked about here is in-touchness with some awareness of what is going on in this organism? Isn’t that a kind of social action? A moment of seeing, in a subtle way, the urge for revenge, and not going with it. Isn’t that social action? Isn’t seeing clearly that we are not separate from each other, from what we call “this world,” isn’t seeing it clearly social action?
