Welcome Spring

Songbirds fly busily from tree to feeder and back again. Some watching and guarding and taking possession as if they themselves went to the store and purchased both seeds and equipment. Others waiting for the opportunity to quickly grab a seed of two. It is as it is. There is hardly a moment without song.

We Springwater Center humans watch and feed and get ready for the busy season. Dead trees are cut down, work begins in the gardens, old foam mattresses are replaced with new memory foam, and we gear up for the retreats to come.

So far this year retreats have been filling up so if you have plans to attend one this year it may be prudent to register early.

Center Rented for Blooming Lilac Sangha Retreat April 12-16

The Center will be closed for the annual Blooming Lilac Sangha spring retreat. If interested in more information about this group you can visit their website online.

Staff will be off following this retreat and will be back and ready to receive guests on Friday April 19.

Four Day Retreat with Stew Glick, April 26-30

It’s not too late to register for this retreat. There are still a few singles and shared rooms available. Stew was one of several people whom Toni Packer invited to continue the teaching work of the Center, and has led retreats since the mid-1990’s. He and his wife Lisa Schwarz host an informal sitting/inquiry group at their home in Rochester.

Tom Braun

Friends will be sad to learn our old friend Tom Braun passed away in March. Tom’s participation in meditative work extended back to the days when our founder Toni Packer had a sitting group at her home in North Tonawanda.

For years, Tom had been a faithful presence here in Springwater on Saturdays, often arriving with arms full of fresh corn, apples, cider and produce from his garden. Tom was an enthusiastic participant in group dialogues in and out of retreat.

We are grateful to Tom for his many generous contributions to the Center, for his helpfulness, for his love of the life here and for his presence among us. Our condolences to his sons and his wife Nancy.
